Earthless & Witch at the Williamsburg Music Hall

Last night I went to see Earthless and Witch at the Williamsburg Music Hall. Earthless were mind blowing as usually… It was good to see the guys from Witch, they rocked it hard. Here’s an interview I shot with Witch at the SXSW 2006 Arthur Magazine party, for Toyota’s Yaris festival website. The audio is’t so hot but it’s still pretty darn funny…

Handmade Portraits: Black-eyed Suzie

(music by Espers, animation by JuliaPott)

Here’s the latest segment in the video series I produce for Etsy called Handmade Portraits. It was a thrill heading up to Montreal in the dead of winter to meet Sarah Faber aka Blackeyedsuzie. We share a love of period piece films, Victorian costumes and the English moors. We shot in her studio surrounded by her three cats and tons of gothic novels. Then we ventured out in the cold to visit the Victorian houses of Old Montreal. Twas indeed a fine time…

Blackeyedsuzie‘s style was influenced by her love for Gothic novels, Victorian and Elizabethan costumes and Dame Darcy’s comic Meat Cake. Her dolls are infused with the same elongated, wide-eyed traits as the characters of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton. However, Sarah’s dolls have their own style: Victorian beauties with a dark side — card sharks, bourbon drinkers, albinos and vampires…

Sunset Crater & Wupatki, Northern AZ

I just returned from shooting an Etsy Handmade Video Portrait with puppeteer Stacey Rebecca in Phoenix, AZ. Got a chance to visit my old stomping ground Flagstaff, AZ. Only lived there for a few years but it was truly a transformative time… Here are some snapshots from my recent hikes around Northern, AZ including Sunset Crater, Wupatki Desert, Buffalo Park and the ghost town Jerome.

Lux Interior R.I.P.

Back in the early 80′s my friends dad brought she and I to the old Ritz club in downtown NYC to see The Cramps. Lux Interior came out on stage wiggling and screaming, I had never seen anything like it. At some point he put his hand down his skin tight black pants and proceeded to slowly pull out a giant fake snake. Haha… it was wild! Rest in peace Lux.
