Last week I had a real fine time shooting Kathy and Robin Tucker of woodmosaics at their farm in Spickard, MO. Met the animals, ate yummy apple salad, shot a ton of Robin talking about his amazing woodwork. Check out the woodmosaics flickr site here for some fantastic photos of their life on the farm. And here’s a few of mine on flickr. The video portrait is scheduled to air mid-September on Etsy. Above is a photo of the gift that Robin and Kathy gave me. A gorgeous medium bright lazy susan. None of the wood is stained and the pieces were cut using a pedal powered foot saw. The design was inspired by an Amish quilt pattern. Very special gift indeed. Last spring my pal Maya Hayuk invited me to join her in Braddock, PA while she worked with Braddock Active Arts organization to help revitalize a once thriving steel mill town, now part of the forgotten post-industrial landscape of America. Sixteen different artists from all over the world gathered to contribute environmental art that ranged from the functional to the inspirational. With the help of the teens from the Braddock Youth Project, these artists added a little life and hope to this depressed town.
Maya’s work and process is completely inspiring. She improvising in much the same way a musician would. Her paintings are part of a new resurgence in psych-folk art that is pinned to a higher consciousness: one that inspires good vibes. Yeah. Thank you Maya!!
