Last fall I edited the UK version of Soft Focus for VBS. Ian Svenonius, former singer for The Make Up and Nation of Ulysses, went to England to talk to legends of the UK music scene. This eight part series begins with Mark E. Smith from the Fall. At first Mark E. didn’t realize that Ian was a musician so he treated him as he would a music critic. But ultimately their like-minded views on politics and the music scene would make for a lively conversation. At the very end of the interview Mark E. said “I know you”… he realized had seen Ian play with The Makeup years before.
