The Winter ’09 issue of Fretboard Journal has a terrific interview between Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and guitarist Michael Chapman. For the past few years I’ve been producing a short documentary called Fully Qualified Survivor about Michael Chapman’s music and his life on Wrytree Farm with his wife Andru. Michael will be coming to the US to perform at the Jack Rose Memorial Concert in Philadelphia February 13th and playing some additional dates on the East Coast.
Sad news today, singer songwriter John Martyn passed away at age 60. I’m not sure why it came as such a shock because he’s been ill for sometime… But recently Bridget St. John had mentioned that John was feeling better and was planning on playing some shows in the States this coming spring. I was so looking for to seeing him play but it wasn’t meant to be. He will not be forgotten…
Here’s an excellent John Martyn tune sent to me by my pal Keith NNCK. Rumor has it John Martyn‘s health has improved and will be coming back to the States to play some shows in the spring. This time around we are not going to miss him!
While trying to finish editing my short documentary about guitarist Michael Chapman I’ve gone deep into the English folk revival of the 1960′s. Been reading Dazzling Stranger & Some People Are Crazy, collecting tons of records and digging for archival footage of back in the day. Here’s a beautiful tune sung by Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span with Martin Carthy, Lark in the Morning…
The WFMU Record Fair in NYC is this weekend! I got some goodies last night including the live 13th Floor Elevators lp from ’66 and an original German pressing of Gun. Nice. Sister Jen Black and I had a groovy time digging for vinyl treasures…
This Tuesday night October 14th Michael Chapman and Jack Rose will play at the NNCK space in Harlem. After ten years of a myriad of legendary underground musicians passing through its doorway the Hint House will soon be no more, so please join us for this event…
The Chapman/Rose tour marks Michael’s third tour in the US in thirty years! Mark Orleans will join Jack Rose on slide guitar and special guest Bridget St. John will play with Michael Chapman and perform a few of her own songs. Prior to the music will be a screening of short films by Theo Angell, Todd Ledford and selected scenes from my Michael Chapman biopic Sea of Wine. Films start at 9pm, music will follow. Hope to see you then.

Fantastic news, English guitarman Michael Chapman and Fahey-esque Jack Rose begin their east coast this weekend! Also just in time for the tour is the release of Michael’s new album Time Passed and Time Passing. Arik Roper, Keith NNCK and I all contributed to the cover art. Thanks to John Allen for getting this album out into the world. Time Passed and Time Passing will be available for purchase in the coming weeks from Other Music, emusic, itunes and Fusetron.
If your coming to the Hint House jam in NYC I will be showing a couple of selected scenes from my upcoming short documentary about Michael Chapman called Fully Qualified Survivor. Above is a clip of Michael Chapman on German television in 1975. So good…
Also note this Wednesday night October 8th English guitarist John Martyn is playing Southpaw! Not to be missed… (note this show has been canceled due to illness)
This Thursday night I will be co-djing Psychedelic Perversions with my pal Rebecca Ross. Come on down for rural vibes and psychedelia emanating from the subtle, kinder tones of the 60′s and 70′s.

My lovely friend folk singer Bridget St. John was married last weekend to bass player Gordon Edwards. The wedding was held at the lake near their cabin in the Adirondacks. It was a magnificent spot, good group of folks, there was a claim bake and amazing music played by Gordon and his friends. Here’s a video of Gordon back in the day with his band Stuff.
